Comment: Easterlies blew more than 1000 to Florida with most seen along the southern eastern coast

City Pier, Anna Maria Island - December 27, 2012

A large population of Razorbills were blown offshore from Maine by Hurricane Sandy

 
A small number ended up on the west coast where they are finding lots of food and are having a great time

Razorbills are Auks, which fill the niche of penguins in the northern hemisphere

Arriving around 9am, we watched 3 individuals fishing around the City Pier

Prior to Winter 2012, there have only been 14 recorded sightings of Razorbills in Florida
