FCP X 10.0.4 was released in mid-April, 2012. It brings to the table a lot of new features. To my great relief, it has also solved my orphaned frame problem outlined in my 3/22 note. I posted about the problem at apple.com but never reached anyone that had a suggestion that worked. It wasn't fixed by deleting preference files and I could never find a consistent pattern that caused it.

I found out about the new release because a friend recommended I not just look at Apple's discussion boards but search google for a clue as to what was wrong. I didn't find anything on the search results that described my problem with orphaned frames but I did see the announcement of 10.0.4's release. I keep forgetting that software update will no longer provide updates to Apple's applications. I need to remember to look at the dock icon for App Store and pay attention when there is a count included.

When I read about 10.0.4's features, I found no mention of anything that would lead me to believe that this was going to solve anything. It was, as its predecessor upgrade before it, a one-way process. Any 10.0.3 projects had to be updated to work in 10.0.4 and this was not backwards compatible. I would normally never consider such an upgrade mid-project but I was getting desperate. So, I rolled the dice and took my chances. I am glad I did.

So far, editing is as fast as it was with 10.0.2. I don't know if it is related or not but the x/y coordinates have significantly changed and are similar to the way FCE worked. With 10.0.3, if I wanted to place 2 portrait photos side by side, I set scale to 133% and offset the x axis to -45 and +45. With 10.0.4, the x axis offset is back to a more reasonable value of -458 and +458. Much more granular! Now go fix all those Keyboard Maestro macros you've written (see my 2/26 post).
